Working Group Religion and Media

Working Group Religion and Media

PURPOSE
The purpose of this working group is to promote and highlight research on religion and media (in a broad sense) and to create and strengthen connections between scholars of religion and media-professionals. It seeks to foster cooperation in and outside the field and to facilitate meetings and events where scholars, media-professionals and others who are interested in the topic, can exchange ideas and engage in discussion. Topics we are interested in (but are not limited to), are: the representation of religion in newspapers, religion and popular culture, media use in and by religious communities, religious media, and so forth. We warmly invite organizations and individuals interested or working in the field or religion and media to contact us for any possible collaborations.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Gather and create a sustainable network of (Dutch) scholars, journalists, and other media-professionals working or interested in the field of religion and media.
  2. Promote research on religion and media in the broadest sense possible, such as the ways people and institutions mediatize religion or religious experience, or the representation of religion in media for example.
  3. Organize professionalizing activities, such as workshops and panels, together with researchers, journalists, media-professionals, experts, etc.
